Hi Plewsy,

Thanks for the, as usual, brilliant vid! Good to see how you needed no collar to compress the o-ring.

Hope you do one about mounting the head. I am particularly interested in how you deal with the push rod tube o-ring crush factor. From what I read on another forum, this is critical regarding maintaining a flat head while ensuring a leak free assembly.

Best regards,
Henry

I was cleaning the spindle shafts up this morining getting them ready for new O rings and the end cap came off the shaft. It's a cap that I presume is supposed to be pressed onto the end of the spindle shaft? Mine have lost the chrome coating and was wondering if I could machine a new set out of stainless steel and press fit them back on to the shaft. Would there be any adverse effects by doing this?

Hi silverfish ,
I'm not sure what you mean by end caps
I will presume they are caps that go over the blank end of shaft, to tidy the ends up.
If this is what you mean I can see no problem in making your own
but can see a problem getting them to stay on.

They look different to mine,
I'm certain mine are 1pce and I have not come across your type
hopefully someone with this type of rocker spindle can advise, or is it broke?.
"I think it be a would be a sliding fit both inner and out diameters,
enabling the changing of the oring without removing the shaft, which you can do anyway!"
you have to be careful using stainless with alloy, it can encourage corrosion

Fishy -
You're correct. The "caps" are NOT supposed to come off the shaft and as such there is NO separate PN for a replacement part. The parts were cadmium plated originally.

I think making stainless caps is a great idea if you can hold the o-ring groove tolerances.

Let us know.

Nice video. Very workmanship like.

I notice you, like I, like to clean up the stock rocker arms. Helps me to sleep better at night.

My method is much the same as yours except I use a pocket knife to install the chamfer. It's much quicker and gives a smoother finish, which the o-ring appreciates. If I have the shaft all the way out, I use a 90 deg single-flute countersink.

The other area is that instead of grease, I use silicone sealer as an o-ring lubricant. This is just as slick as the grease, but adds to the sealing ability. All the excess is pushed to the outside of the box when the shaft is brought home and can be wiped off there.

Again, very good.
