How to find out about production date
Hi,
could you told me how to find out what exact production date my bike is. I searched the web already but unfortunatley with no result.
I have a '67 T120 with VIN-#T120 DU65975 first registered in UK on July 14th 1967.
I know the 67 numbers are from DU44394 to DU66245, so it seems my bike is a late one.
Thank you

as far as I'm aware, you have all the information available given your engine number.
The numbers don't help until later (69 on)
You can contact the TOMCC in the Uk who have some of the record books

Yours is a late 67 model for sure.
It should have the completely encapsulated alternator rotor (instead of open windings), Concentric carbs (instead of monoblocs), timed oil feed to the tappets (instead of plain shaft tappets), o-rings on the tappet guide blocks (instead of plain friction-fit), Aubergine on White paint (instead of Aubergine on Gold), all black seat (insted of gray top), 4CA ignition points assembly (instead of early type without individual adjustment), and threaded CEI locknut on the clutch center (instead of locktab washer and BSF nut).

I believe that the Vintage Motorcycle club (VMCC) www.vmcc.net have the factory records and can give an exact date.

Thanx for this information.
Are there books or other literature you can recommend me where I can find all this information?

"Triumph Bonneville" by Steve Wilson or "Triumph Twin Resoration" by Roy Bacon would be a good start.

One of my favorite resources is "BONNIE the Development history of the Triumph Bonneville"
Look for the book resource thread in the tech section...

It surprised me that there is no where online where you can at least establish the month your triumph was born. Of course, you can guess fairly closely based on the the VIN.
THe VMC does provide a look up service, but you have to send them a letter and be a member.
Too bad no one could post this information online.
It surely wouldnt be a big deal for the VMC to at least post online the VINs by month for triumphs.

Some folks like to know they've got a little corner that people can appreciate them for. They and/or others also like to know they can make a few bucks from what they know or have; I don't begrudge them that. In this case it's just a simple matter of "encouraging" people to join up! Not a bad thing, it has other benefits.
Now, do you REALLY need to know the EXACT date/month your bike was built? I'd say, only if you are trying to build a 100 point concourse bike, in which case the price of membership would be relatively cheap.
