1968 650 Twin hiccups!

Yes, it hiccups at idle, and if that hiccup happens to occur when it is merely idling and I am not periodically revving it, it dies. This happens generally about every other stoplight, but alnost psychically right when my light goes green. The people behind me get irritated watching me kicking. So I am left with looking rather eager at stoplights, all vroom vroom vroom. I would rather not go through all that so I've tried a fast idle, fiddling with carb screws, etc. and without any noticeable improvement.

Funny thing is, ALL my Triumphs have done this, even when fresh from the dealer for tuning, new plugs, new coils, new harness and Boyer ignition, brand new Concentric, it doesn't matter.

So what can I do to get rid of the hiccup?

I'm sure the more experienced guys will post something for you. Just thinking out loud about how the carb works. At idle fuel is drawn from the bowl thru the carb body(not the jet) and mixed with air thru the air/idle mixture screw. The cutaway in the closed slide also come into play at idle. So some of the things to check would be float level, float needle and needle seating, the o-ring on the air/idle mixture screw, and the slide. One thing to try before replacing anything, is set your idle up a tad bit by adjusting the slide stop screw. Does the hiccup go away? Is it maybe running just slightly rich at idle? My 750 single carb 73 Tiger would do that too until I rebuild the bard and got it adjusted sweetly, and it was always running rich.

I've had several Triumphs do the "hiccup / die" thing; MOST of the time, it comes down to a good carb and air filter cleaning, proper carb balance and adjustment, plus ensuring that the fuel taps are flowing freely.
