Rear brake switch mod
Over the years, I have got through several of the plastic rear brake light switches on both my OIF bonnies. Most times it has been fatigue of the plastic caused by constant flexing of the unit by applying and releasing the foot brake. A couple of times, with the plastic being brittle after a few years, over tightening of the fixings resulted in cracking around the mounting holes.
Anyway, I came up with this small modification which seems to cover both causes of failure (so far!).
I made (or you can buy) a small piece of channel the same internal depth as the fixing part of the switch. I then cut away part of the channel to allow it to fit over the fixing part. Drilled the holes and fitted it.
The depth of the metal channel stops the plastic being crushed (as it buts up against the frame tube), and the width, along with the side walls of the channel, stops the very small amount of flexing of the switch.
