Question Loose gauges

I got my thruxton back from routine service a few days ago and noticed that the gauges are now slightly loose in the console. To tighten them, do I tighten the bolts at the bottoms of the cuts they sit in or is there something else holding them in?

Thanks...it seems like a silly question, but I don't want to overtighten the wrong thing.

They sit loose, by design I believe, probably to reduce vibration. They kind of float in the rubber gaskets. As long as the nuts on the bottom of the covers are snug, they should be alright, if they're seated correctly in the first place.

Those nuts hold the back covers on the gauge. The gauge itself is not really secured tightly by anything. Make sure that the cables going into the gauges are relaxed and in a good position, not pulling or twisting.

Sounds like it's nothing to worry about then. They just seem noticeably looser than prior to the maintenance to the point that I noticed them vibrating at speed (around 75-80mph).

I had this same problem with my tach. Unscrewed two bolts and took the cover off, and there are two metal rods attached to the tack which allow the cover to go on. There were 2 washers on each rod, so I took one off of each.

Getting the cover back on was a pain. You have to put the washers on first, which is difficult because the rods are facing downwards (ie the washers "want" to fall right off). After I got everything back on, it was a little tighter, but not perfect. I might go take off the last two washers on the inside to make it more snug.

the rubber gasket the the guage sits in wears; I had to replace mine ($11) and it solved the prob.

My tach showed looseness last fall-the way I tightened it was to slip a large O ring over the face of the tach and position it to take up the slack. It was a perfect fit and eliminated the looseness, while still providing the requisite cushioning.
Easy and effective!
