weeping oil?

I have an '07 Bonnie w/ ~6,500 fun filled miles.
Since ~4K, it's begun to slightly weep oil along the top of the timing cover (triangle shape) where it mates to the engine block. It's just a drop or two after an extended run & never continues to leak after shutdown. I just wipe it off.
No leaking whatsoever on the bottom side.
I checked the 8mm bolts & found some of them not tight, so I snugged them all up, but just snug.
It still weeps, however
Anyone else having this issue? Is it a gasket sealing problem? Will it get worse?
Maybe I should have my dealer look it over? It's still under warranty.
Thanks for the replies....

Hi Mark,

definitely have the dealer look at it if its under warranty. You paid out hard earned $$s for it, they owe you some backup.

It sounds like the gasket needs to be replaced, which is not a big deal on that part of the engine.

Sounds like the infamous valve cover leak. I had it along with alot of others. My bike is an 07 and I took it back to the dealer and they replaced the gasket in about an hour at no charge. So far, so good, no more oil leak.

MARKhp,

I hope your dealer is Martin's Eurosport in Coopersburg on Rt 309S.

They are SUPER SUPER and have excellent techs working on the bikes.

I took mine there and it came back another machine, it runs like a raped ape.

gdawg, guess again, did you read the initial post?

It's the alternator cover, just pull it off and replace the gasket. It's simple. Or, have the dealer do it.

My '06 weeps there also, occasionally. I just shine it up. Once, though, I looked down when it was hot and saw an oil bubble form at that top 8mm bolt head, just about in the center of the alt cover. That was bothersome. Found the bolts were a bit loose, so as you said, I just snugged 'em back down and haven't seen that again. Someday I'll replace the gasket and double check the pickup coil gap.

Thumbs up

Thanks for your replies.
I tried an experiment by running the bike up to operating temp (~200F) & then slightly retightening up all the 8mm bolts around the cover while it was still hot.
Well guess what? No more weeping or leaking after that -so far anyway.
Keeping fingers crossed....

However, I will take it under advisement as my '08 T100 has just over 700 miles and seems to show some oil weeping on the cylinder heads. The valve cover was where I thought it may be weeping from. It's just surprising that a bike with only 700 miles would already be weeping oil. Thank god for 2 year unlimited mile warrenty.

Many of them leak from the valve cover, will be fixed under warranty, or you can do it yourself.
