Louder = bigger. The NewBonneville replacement horn is a bit louder and a bit bigger, and is allegedly a "drop-in" replacement, although some riders found that it smacks the front fender at high compression of the forks, as when braking and hitting a bump.

I installed it under the tank, where the AI valve lived. Since then, I've concluded that I need a much louder horn and might eventually install the Stebel Nautilus compact, which doesn't fit in any hidden location, has to be bolted on to the exterior somewhere.

I read before in the forum about the New Bonneville replacement horn, and it was said that effectively it wasn't much louder than the original. I may check for the Stebel Nautilus and see if it can fit somewhere. Thank's !

the NB horn is quite a bit louder than stock, but to be honest no where near as loud as I had hoped it would be when I bought it.

The stock horn is quite pathetic and installing the NB horn is an improvement but I guess for the amount of times I have really had to use it, if I had my time back I probably wouldn't have bought it.

Go to a junkyard, find any GM car from 80-90's.
That horn is about the same size, but it sounds like, well, it sounds like blue hair in a Buick about to run over your ass!

I use my exhaust pipes for horns. If they can't hear me then they are deaf. Plus the pipes tell the cars behind me that are about to run over me that I am there. They are pointing right at them back there. I always run 1-2 gears lower anyway. I got one of the louder horns & never did install it. It did look like the fender would hit it. I couldn't find a better place. So it is still in the box. Mine came from Harbor Freight. Looks about the same size as factory except for the mounting. A good set of air horns will work. Bob.

Norman Hyde

Have just had the Norman Hyde www.normanhyde.co.uk horn installed on my new Thrux - it is louder but not much more than stock. Totall agree with 375bob - I had Mototwin exhausts on my790 bonnie and tended to ride a gear lower than fuel efficiency tarts would prefer in order to keep the pop bark and crack at a higher level. But that was a carb model. The Thrux is efi - and even with Norman Hyde exhausts is muted - a kind of richer smoother chocolate as opposed to the sharp spearmint of the Mototwins. Both are great, but I want and will aim for more crack and pop on the Thrux as that is more effective than the best horn.

Stebel Nautilus, 139 decibels and very loud. It is larger than stock but installed in place of stock with no problems. My mechanic didn't like it being in front of the cooler but I have had no problems and believe that at the speeds I drive, I won't. It has saved my butt a couple of times. Woman on cell phone drifting into my lane, I gave her a burst, her eyes went wide the mouth flew open, dropped the cell phone and jerked back into her own lane. I love it and feel it is the best thing I have done to my bike other than replacing the bars.

Completely agree with Peter:

"the NB horn is quite a bit louder than stock, but to be honest no where near as loud as I had hoped it would be when I bought it."

I am thinking of getting the FIAMM Freeway Blaster in the Low Tone model. There are sport bike guys that have just disconnected OEM horn and mounted this one without any special installation wiring or relays (IF YOU USE ONLY THE SINGLE HORN SETUP). I am thinking same should be true on my Scrammy.
