50th Anniv T100 initial observations

I picked up yet another T100 last weekend, this one a 2009 20th Anniversary Edition. I still have the two 2007 T100's - I'm a sick man! A couple of initial observations:

1. The EFI starts and runs very well - much better cold than the carb bikes , and the throttle response is actually much quicker. I was surprised.
2. The exhaust headers are slightly larger in diameter - maybe an 1/8"
3. Norman Hyde Togas do fit the 2009 EFI bikes, but the mounting brackets cause the mufflers to splay out slightly more at the rear than on either 2007 carb model.
4. There is now a clutch start switch in addition to the side stand switch. You can not engage the starter unless the clutch is pulled in, neutral or not.
5. The bike has the same Cali evaporative emissions crap I removed from my Cali 2007. I haven't decided to what level I'm going to molest the 50th Anniversary edition.
6. The foot peg rubber with the Triumph logos are very nice, reminiscent of the footpeg rubber on my older Trumpys. When I picked up the 50th Anniversary last weekend, I tried to order a couple of sets of rubber for my 2007 bikes, but discovered Triumph discourages anyone from building 50th Anniv clones by charging $77.00 per peg rubber for the logo editions!!! I decided my std 2007 footpeg rubbers were just fine...
7. A set of black/chrome full shrouded Hagon rear shocks fit on the 50th Anniv nicely and look period correct
8. The new rear hub with straight spokes is a big improvement
9. The black engine cases with chrome engine side and cam covers looks a bit tarted up to my eye, but that's what Triumph did. It looks like across between a Bonnie Black and a T100
10. No petcock on the FI bike - ??? There is a low fuel indicator lamp on the speedo instead.
11. This is a Thailand assembled bike - you'd think Triumph would have built the 650 units of the 50th Anniversary bikes in UK.
12. The plastic tank badges are a travesty - Triumph should really fix this on the FI bikes.

I've ordered California license plate "59 REDUX" for the bike

Pics to follow

Dick

Nice write up!

See my thread on plastic badges...... they couldnt even put metal badges on the 50th Anniversary edition..... that really is shamefull

No there is no petcock on efi bikes.... why would there be? As soon as your light goes on you are low on fuel and into reserve. FI systems work on pressure and not gravity or sucking the fuel.

My local Triumph guru, Mickey Cohen at Mickey Cohen Motorsports is going to install a Power Commmander on the 50th Anniv bike for me. I understand this is one of two in the world right now - we'll see how this works out. Mickey services and manages Triumph's press fleet in the USA, so he's well connected to Triumph and is a Power Commander tuning center. Mickey verified I had the jetting correct on my 2007 Cali bike via his dyno, and does great work if any of you are in SoCal.
