Cutting the header on a Bonneville
I don't know if everyone hates the header "kink" as much as I do, but my bonnie sure would look a lot cleaner without it. I'm considering cutting the bend out of the header and throwing the Dunstall mufflers on. From what I can tell, you get about 3/4" of straight pipe before running into the header attachment points. I was thinking of modifying (aka cuttin' off the tip) of my dunstalls to allow a tight fit to the header. Has anyone tried this?
I know you can buy new straight headers, but I don't have that kind of cash currently.
Thoughts?

You may run into clearance problems with the stock header without the kink. The aftermarket "straight" headers that I have seen are routed a little differently.
Have em ceramic coated black or paint em black with high temp BBQ paint and you won't even notice the kink, anymore.

Larry is right, the "kink" is there to allow sidestand retraction. You can get around the problem with a modified 2into1 pipe, but we all know how much "those" suck.

Just put some dunstall replicas on my bonnie. First off they sound great! Actually not super loud.
Secondly, I minimized the kink in the headers by cutting off part of the header and cutting down the adapter pipe. I'll upload photos soon.

Cool. I went the other way, removing all the straight pipe and adding kinks.

I made the pipe myself. Its bits of stock header, and pieces of u-bend and 2"pipe that was left over from some of my other pipe experiments. Its pretty quiet and has very nice power up and down the throttle. The Dunstall cans I`ve seen and heard, have been darn good too. You`ll be happy with them.
