Gaiters plus Superbrace
I want to add a Superbrace because it did good things for my V-Strom. I would also like to put on the gaiters. I searched and found some old threads about whether the gaiters will work with the Superbrace, but there seemed to be no concensus. There was also a mention back in March about a new Superbrace coming with a built-in "lip" for the gaiters, guess it never showed up. Any thoughts on this? I blew a front tire, so while I'm waiting for the tire to come in, I'd like to decide on any other things to do while the wheel's off (doesn't need to be off for the Superbrace, I know).
Thanks, Mike

Brace/ Gaitors
I am not a big fan of gaitors! Had them on all the bikes in the 60-70's. They always tore etc. I like the nice clean look of the naked fork tubes. Just clean them after every ride!! The brace is a "Nice Feature". That would be my priority!! Less work to install as well.
Whatever trips your triigger? The brace is a great improvement!!~ 2 buds put on gaitors & in less than 2 yrs - are torn already! I have kept my forks clean after EVERY ride, & have no seal problems to date. I really like the look as well!

I don't have gaiters, but just installed a super-brace. With the super-brace installed, there isn't any circumference surface on the fork to secure the bottom of the gaitor. I've read that some folks install the gaitor securing the top in the normal fashion but just don't secure the bottom, letting the bottom simply "set" in place. I've heard that works fine, but perhaps some others will chime in who have actually done this.
I've only gone about 250 miles since installing my super-brace, but I really thought it made a nice improvement. I've already installed new Ikon fork springs and also have new tires, so I thought the handling wouldn't improve much with the fork brace. However, I was fairly surprised at how much better the bike felt when pushing it hard into corners, and even on fast sweeping turns the bike just felt far more stable and predictable. Others have reported the brace didn't make much difference, but my initial impressions are quite positive.
Hope you enjoy your brace, and get the gaitors to fit too!

Mike, I'm no help in answering your question, but I'm equally interested
in the answer. I've got gaiters on mine and would like to install the
SuperBrace someday, too.
(For the record, my bike is quite stable at high speeds, so the SuperBrace
would be installed as a hedge against a potential tank slapper.)

Consider changing your springs and fork oil while you have it apart, if you haven't done that already.

Wouldn't a steering damper be better for preventing a tank slapper?

Marty,
Valid question. I've heard both sides of that discussion and seem to get the impression that on our Bonnevilles/Thruxtons the brace would do more good than the damper. (Regardless, I don't like the look of the dampers.) Frankly, I don't think any "empirical" evidence exists, i.e. someone who crashed with one and not the other!!

Thanks for the replies so far, I'm definitely a believer in the Superbrace based on how it improved my V-Strom. Not particularly sold on the gaiters, but I wonder if anyone has mounted both successfully (pics would be great).

I have black gaiter-ready braces in-stock and a special order of polished braces should be here next week. I'm not going to stock the non-gaiter version because I never cared for their screw-on stone guards.
