790 bonnie + emgos + no airbox mods = no rejet?
OK before anyone says to search, I definitely did so without too much specific luck.
I have an 04 bonnie that is stock save for AI removal.
I'm getting EMGO shorty reverse cones and plan to repack the baffles before I install.
No airbox mods at all.
Could I just bolt on the pipes without the need for a rejet? What would happen?

Rejet
I believe the 04s came with 110 jets which are tooo small to begin with. I run my 04 with 115s, 42 pilots (better starting in cold weather), thruxton needles,1shim, unifilter and baffelectomy. I average about 43-45 mpg. I suspect you will probably be good with 115 to 118s.

Rejet
Rejet, I am running the Commando Specialities pipes with 125/42's and Thrux needles with my 03' 795cc. I believe you will be running really lean with those pipes.

upon further research it does seem to be the consensus that I'll be running too lean with the pipes and no rejet.
I have to figure out what size jets I need to put in.
Now I just need to muster up the courage to tackle my carbs.

04 bonne
I have an 04 & it has always run a little rich? I have gutted & shortened peashooters stock. Always run rite on~!No airbox mods either. I feel if you baffled the Emgo's heavy - to get the TRUE Bonne sound (real tinny otherwise) you could do OK w/ stock jets? You may - after running it a while wanna go up a bit on the jets? I think if ya wrap it rite- it will be OK? Perf & plugs wil tell it all. I am on stock jets & I just removed my plugs 2 weeks ago
& all was perfect!! Gap , color everything was rite on! I put the new plugs in cause I had the old ones out- otherwise I wouldnt have xchanged them! Give it a good wrap & use good wire to hold on & see what happens? Il bet it runs fine! Iamthinkin the Emgo Dunstall replicas to keep my stockers in decent shape. Hell for $100- how can ya go wrong? I like the look! Good luck & let me know how all works out?

You have an 04 790cc without the Thruxton needles so I would try 128 main jets first and then go down to 125 or up to 130 if needed. Turn your pilot screws out to 3.25 turns.

thanks for the link. I DLed it previously but never printed it out to read yet. I'll do that today.
As it stands, since I'm going to rejet anyway I think I'm going to go ahead with the airbox elimination kit as well and get it all done in one fell swoop.
I'll keep you all updated as I'm sure I'll be having a ton more questions in the coming days.

Ivar, that is a great link. I just downloaded the manual and it will really help with me understanding how various modifications affect the carb settings!

If you remove the airbox, then you are talking some big jetting differences. I would advise starting with 150 main jets, leave the pilot jets stock (start at 2.5 turns out on the pilot screws), and do not change the needles unless you find out after riding and tuning that you have some flat spots in the mid-range. I set my 790 up on the dyno and I have averaged 50+ mpg over the last 20000 miles!
If it doesn't feel like it is lifting the front wheel at WOT in 1st and 2nd gears when you get around 5000 rpm, your jets are too small. Don't listen to the 865 boys tell you the jetting for your 790--apples and oranges differences. My 790 with stock needles is a little rich in the mid-range. The main jet size has no bearing on the needles. The needle sits in a needle jet well above the main jet. I still recommend one get the bike on a dyno to get the mixtures set properly--there are too many differences from bike to bike for my jetting set-up to work for someone else. That's why i say start with 150 main jets and go up from there. If your silencers are very restrictive, you may wind up with 145's, but I doubt it.
