Safe to use Blue Magic Metal Polish on Exhaust?

Yesterday it was raining like no tomorrow, so since I couldn't ride I decided to give my T100 an extra thorough cleaning and polish. I didn't have any chrome cleaner/polish in my supplies so I shot down to the local auto parts store and picked up some Blue Magic Metal Polish. I thought it worked well. My Bonny looks better than when I picked it up from the dealer.

A few minutes ago I was just skimming the owners manual for something unrelated and I noticed a note that said not to use chrome cleaners that contain silicone on the exhaust, as it will discolor the pipes. Blue Magic leaves a silicone film. Has any one used this product on their exhaust system? If so, did it cause any discoloration? Maybe I should just wipe the pipes down with some solvent to get that stuff off.

You could try WD40, which contains a mild solvent - that will probably take it off.

That's all I use to clean my exhaust - a cloth soaked in WD40, then buff it dry. I don't worry about polishing the blue off the headers - I like it there.

Yes chrome cleaners containing silicone will yellow the pipes inc mufflers. Even my Honda manual warns me against that and they are stainless steel.

I would clean it off as PF suggests.

Ride on !

Thanks - saw your responses, cleaned that stuff off then went for a ride. I'll try using WD40 moving forward. I'm not worried about getting the blue off. Just trying to keep her clean and shiny!

Why Just WD-40?

Just WD-40? How come?
