to sissy bar or not to sissy bar...
I have a 08 Bonnie-B with a contemporary seat w/cowl, I also have 9 year boy who wants to ride with me. He rides on my father’s HD and he has a sissy bar which my boy likes, makes him feel safer and I agree.
So my question is this; if I choose to get a sissy bar is it easily removable, because I do not want it on my bike w/o a passenger.

I haven't seen any that were "easy" to remove. Tell your 9-year-old that it's called a "sissy" bar for a reason. Just get a grab bar or something you can stand to leave on the bike all the time.

Sissy Bar
I made an adaptor little back rest for my Rennetec for 2 up. Really dont need it as you have
the grab rail there. I can feel for him feeling of sliding off the back!!The grab rail will overcome that! I got a lift on buds HD & felt like I was gonna fall off the back on every shift!! GRAB RAIL!! They call them sissy bar for a rreason!!

My wife would not ride unless I installed a sissy bar. Now my bike is a wee bit ugly. Boo!
Someone needs to make a quick release of sorts.

I have the low one on mine. same as most, my wife won't ride without one. It comes off simple, not quick but simple. There are 2 allens on each side so not too awful.

Sissy Bar!
I got the Grab Rail set up when new.
But the wife insisted on the tall Sissy bar.
I can interchange the 2 units within minutes.
Easily changed and swapped at will.
Like he said 4 allen bolts in and out and on and down the road you go.

The Triumph sissy bar mounts in two steps.
First you have to install a U-shaped mounting rail, which more or less follows the bottom edge of the seat and will remain installed.
Second, the sissy bar (low, high, or grab rail) attaches to this mounting rail with two screws on each side, simple and quick to attach or remove.
The mounting rail is visible, but not very obvious, kind of low-key. It looks better with some screws in the otherwise unused holes, if the sissy bar is off.

Sissy Bar
Tell them that the ss bar is there but dont lean against it- can break off. Hold on the grab rails/ strap for safety. I HATE the looks of a hi SS bar!! A low back rest isnt too bad. I made one that slides over the grab rail on mt Rennetec Rack. Dont use it much tho. All are happy w/ the rail & strap.

With all due respect to the Captain, the Triumph sissy bar is substantial and I'd have no worries about leaning on it or holding on to it if all the screws are tight.
I would have serious worries about hanging on to the seat strap. I tell my passengers that they can lean back on the back rest, hold onto the sissy bar supports, and/or hold on to me, but do not hang on to the strap.
