wooden feeling front brake - advice pls

my 900 mile old scramblers front brake feels a bit 'wooden', it just lacks bite really.

So I guess start with the pads, i assume they should have bedded in ok so might need swapping out to something better. Or am i just expecting too much from a single rotor and 300kg of rider & bike

I have in the past fitted braided hoses has anyone done this does it make much of a difference on the single disc setup?

Cheers
Clive

The first mod I did on my Scram was to fit EBC floating front disc and HH pads.
The OEM front brake is, as you say, very much made of wood!!
