How often do you change your oil & filter?
Curious what the average interval is for everyone.. The manual says every 500 miles. Now, call me crazy, but that just seems ridiculously excessive. What's the consensus?
Also, I found a couple of sites that I somehow cannot find tonight that sold Mobil1 4T x4qt, with the OEM filter and a washer for $64. Anyone know which site I mean?
Thanks...from yet another newbie!

I think the Manual is a little confusing.
The schedule for replacing oil/filter is at 500 miles and then at 4000 miles and every 4000 after that

Change at the 1st 500 and every 6000 after that with full synthetic...I just change mine in January.

yes the 500 is only the first change.
I am wierd, therefore I choose to do things my own way. For no particular reason, I change at 500 miles, then 3000 miles, then 7000 miles, then 12000 (these are all actual miles - not intervals) and then will be keeping to 6000 mile intervals after that, using fully synthetic. So my change interval goes 500, 3000, 4000, 5000, and then stays at 6000.
I don't know why I do that. There's really no reason for it.
The fully synth I took out after 4000 miles was in perfectly good condition.
All is well.
PS Bonnie manual calls for oil changes every 6000 miles, it might be different on th other models.

Used to change it 1x yr. Depending on summer rides- i may do it before summer & rite after? It gets really HOT here in the summer. A lot of rain this summer so it will prob be 1 time this year?

Once a year, usually at the end of the season. A year for me is 3000-4000 miles.

Once a year, whether it needs it or not.
In late November, before I put up for limited warm weather riding in the cold winter. I ride 6-12K on Bonnie per year. Using Tri Mobile1 Syn. Oil and filter at the same time. At my 24K valve adustment last August, Dealer Mechanic said - "...there was NOTHING to adjust. It was spot on. "I use Hess gas premium as well.

ahh, ok..thanks - for those who do it once a year, would you recommend to do it before it goes into storage (for those w/ cold climates) or when you take it out for the next season? Not sure it will even apply, as I hope to be in California by Oct/Nov, but just in case...

i changed it at 500 miles with my first service, then again at 3000 miles, and will again at 6000, then go to the regular schedule of 6000 miles or once a year (i use full synthetic), whicheverf comes first. i did the additional oil change at 3000 miles due to the fact that i wanted to get rid of the oil that was in there during the break in period.
