Airfilterless Bonnie
Got an 05 Bonnieville, purchased new, with 4500 miles that runs, rides and looks perfect. Last week I decided to check condition on the air filter. To my suprise the bike has no air filter. I've been riding this bike since it was purchased with no air filter. My dealer contacted Triumph and there response was that the bike will not run w/o an air filter. Beg to differ gents. Any thoughts on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

The bike will run without an air filter however running without one will eventually hurt your top end by sucking in dirt, debris, etc.
I would refit an air filter, you may need to check the jetting to see if the previous owner had it jetted for no filter.

Wait a minute guys... reread the original post. ghosttanker said he purchased his bike new (w/ no air filter). This is the second case of this I've seen here.

So he did - I misinterpreted that bit. Dunno how it was clear enough.
He should still get an air filter in it toot sweet. The dealer should give him a filter for free at the very least.

You purchased the bike new.
And you didnt take the filter out.
That means whoever did the 500 mile service (the original dealer?) took it out, or it never had one in the first place and the servicer didn't check it.
Definite grounds for a claim against dealer/servicer I'd say!!
Someone's been negligent, and its not you (unless it was never serviced that is).
And if you won the day you could claim for a new engine!
I would!!

Whoops I didn't read it correctly but it sounds like Ventura is on to it with the 500 mile service problem or like Road Dog said it came from the factory like that. If it came from the factory like that it would still run but the dealer should have caught that at the 500 mile service.

You know, my bike was pretty messed up as delivered. Maybe I'll start another thread to see if its a common problem or not.

I've heard about this before too, and my main concern is the longevity of the top end. Sucking dust/dirt/pollen/cats into the engine isn't a good thing, and it will score the bores and mess up ring seal, valve seats, etc. Basically it will ruin your engine. Ask Robnobrakes about it in a year or so.
I'd raise holy hell with the dealer.

Did you have the 4000 mile service or annual services carried out?
Not sure of the top of my head but I think the air filter is changed every 2 years 8K miles.
Go back to the dealer with bike and claim negligence. Good Luck
