"Blueing on pipes'
I took delivery of my new Thruxton last Friday. From the moment I saw her I had to have her! I couldn't be happier with my choice.
Now for my concern.
I expected blueing on my exhaust pipes. Have no problem with it, actually kinda like the way it looks. When I picked up the bike she seemed to be running a bit rough, the head mechanic took a look and went for a test ride with the verdict being, "...that's just how a Triumph sounds." Ok...I suspected old fuel and maybe some varnishing inside the carb.
After the first 100 miles the left pipe is turning colors as expected but the right pipe hasn't changed at all, my gut is telling me the right cylinder is not firing correctly, possibly not getting up to temp thus not causing any "blueing" on the exhaust pipe. Has anyone experienced similar results? Will one pipe not change shades as the other does?
Glad I came across this forum and I look forward to sharing my thoughts and ideas with the rest of the members.

you have a dead jug. probably ignition related. put your palms several inches in back of exhausts at idle and check for tactile pressure difference

Many others have reported this also. See this thread http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-tech...the-other.html
Some say that they will even out after a while. Others disagree.
Most likely it is not a "dead jug". But who knows, maybe it is.
Greetings,
Thor

I have just run mine in and one exhaust has turned blue the other is spotted gold with a hint of blue.
From what i have read on the forum most of the bikes do this, that said mine does run smooth and not rough as you described.

when I picked up my bike from the dealer, the pipes coloured virtually straight away upon starting up.
I remember seeing a hint of smoke coming off the pipes when first starting up and the pipes immediately turning a greenish straw colour. by the time I arrived home both pipes were fairly blue, although one was bluer than the other.
now thousands of kilometers later the pipes are a slightly deeper blue but one is darker than the other.
I have put down the differences in hue to the air injection, which has since been removed.
however, my bike runs very smooth, not rough.

Letting it idle on the side stand a bit? Get an AI removal kit and a tube of semichrome and you'll be ok.

Non Blue
Just for GP's Id put in new plugs. They can be defective as I have found! 1 less thing to have to worry about! It should run smooth! DX the A/I as mentioned as well! People think because a plug is new - it cant be bad. Believe me- they can!! Let us all know!

Hey thanks for all the input. Drained the old fuel this evening and some of the sputtering has stopped. Think I do have a defective spark plug though, the right exhaust is definitely not getting up to the same temp as the other. Plan on replacing the plugs tommorrow, i think this is the root of the problem.
Ordered an AI removal kit, predator exhaust, and air box elimination kit today. Hope to have it on this weekend.
Thanks again.
