Finally some good news about my wobble

I've been dealing with a wobble problem in my front end since I bought the bike on June 7. It's been sitting at the dealership since June 28. I've been getting the run around, I felt, so I went down to the dealership to talk to the general manager.

I was pleasantly surprised at how much he wanted to make sure the bike was ok. We sat and talked to the shop manager and the sales manager, spitballing about what the issue might be. Eventually the general manager offered that we take a couple Thruxtons out for a test -- mine and one from his lot.

Well, the wobble certainly wasn't in my mind. And more importantly, a front end wobble isn't "just what these bikes do", as Peter Carleo of Triumph USA told me. Their floor bike was as smooth as silk. I was completely jealous of it.

The general manager tested my bike out really thoroughly; we shot up to about 100 on a major route, flew around some twisties, and in general really tried it in every type of riding. When we got back, he tells me, "Yeah, this thing is vibrating violently. If you showed up at the track, you'd be disqualified on this thing." He even rode the thing at high speed holding on to just the forks to isolate out the problem. I was frankly a little worried for the guy.

And so we went back down and talked to their head mechanic about the problem and when we could get it all fixed. Best of all, the general manager told me that if I don't get the bike back in time for my road trip on Thursday, he'd loan me out one of their bikes.

I feel like they finally listened and that this problem is really going to be fixed now and that someone GETS IT. And I can say this -- after riding a healthy Thruxton, I CAN'T WAIT. These are cool little bikes and I'm going to be ALL OVER that thing!

So long story short, the customer relations problem is at the Triumph USA out of Georgia. Those guys at Triumph are really putting their dealers -- some of whom are really dedicated guys -- in a bad position. It takes forever for them to approve warranty work; they resist at every turn. It takes them forever to ship parts if it's on warranty work, too. They give you the impression that they'd really just wish you go away. After talking to Carleo, I was spitting mad. The guy just does not get it at all.

Hopefully I'll be amongst y'all, back riding happily some time this week.

Excellent - I am so glad the dealer is going to stand by you on this - it's what they should do!

I'm sorry for ever suggesting talking to Peter Carleo - I had heard positives, but there it is. The main thing is the dealer is on it, and they'll make it right.

As you know - you'll love it when you get it back all trimmed in!

Very glad to hear you have such a good dealer. My Thruxton has never had this wobble problem but I've heard of several folks who have experienced it to varying degrees. Sounds like your dealer is willing to really investigate it, definitely let us know what they find!

That's an unbelievable thing for him to say! That's like Firestone saying"Oh,all of our tyres blow up and kill people.Don't worry about it"

I think if he had said that to me,I would have told him he could give me my money back, and take his death machine and shove it up his ass!

Good on you for finding a dealer that is happy to work with you to remedy your problem.

Cheers!

That's good news!

Good to hear your bike is on the road to recovery. Expecially since you've ridden a near-identical bike that had none of the problems you've experienced. I went through a similar experience with my GS several years ago when it was backed into by a truck (I had to bail out, but the wheel got stuck in part of the truck rear end and didn't fall over .... it was a close one). The dealer almost had it right, but couldn't eliminate a vibration that happened when I applied the front brake. I'd already used a run-out gage and knew it wasn't a warped rotor. They'd screwed something up in the damping system when they disassembled the forks to check the fork stantions to see if they were bent. When I asked them to pull the front fork assembly and drain the fork oil so I could ship it to another dealer for repair, they decided to install an entirely new front end. Problem solved.

Enough about my old bike. I really hope they get your bike spot on. The Bonneville line (Thrux, Blacks, Scramblers, T100s) are a really unique bunch of motorcycles. You deserve to own one that runs and handles like it's supposed to.

Bob
