Question Reliability?

I'm very close to taking an overseas trip and was planning on my return to buy a Speedmaster, but I've recently been told of problems.Mostly regarding oil leaks, but some reliability problems too.
I know I'm speaking to hard core Triumph owners here[I'm a long time devotee myself].But I need some no B.S. information on the new Triumph twins.Do they leak? How reliable are they?Any problems that routinely occur?

They leak the same amount as any modern bike.........not at all!
Reliable? You bet.
Routine problems? No

Where did you hear that? I bought mine because everyone told me they were bullet-proof. 1800 miles in two weeks since new and the only problem so far is trying to get this darn smile off my face.
Good luck with your decision.

Whoever told you that most likely rides a Harley .
That vertical twin is VERY tough. When my bike was new I had a valve cover gasket seep a few drops but that was easily fixed with an allen key and a diner napkin.
And Speedmaster for a cruiser handle awesome . I rode my buddy's 04 Speedy and after getting used to the forward controls I was hitting the twistied like I would my Thruxton. If I were to get a cruiser the Speedmaster would certainly be it .

I agree - no problems with mine at all (except when a mouse moved into the airbox - can't blaim Triumph for that one). No leaks, no starting problems, bulletproof.

There are isolated incidents of problems, but actually no more than any manufacturer. The thing with isolated incidents, is that the unfortunate owners who suffer the problems are obviously upset, with good reason, and consequently make a lot of noise about the problems. Hey, I would too. This tends to skew the opinion though, so it looks as though there are more issues than there really are.

Overall these are incredibly solid bikes - they are heavier than they should be because they are engineered to be tough, but the weight is slung low so they are very manoeverable and great fun to ride.

I love mine, it's a joy to ride, and again, has been trouble free for the 7000 miles I have done on it in the last year.

I recommend the brand!

i bought my thruxton this past december and couldn't be happier. have close to 4500 miles on it so far and no problems at all. this is my first motorcycle, but compared to other bikes in its price range you seem to get a much more solid machine. you could buy something more modern and faster, but these bikes seem like they are built to last, and they are easy to work on, as i have done all my mods, oil changes and basic service myself. when people ask me if i like my bike i always tell them, heck yes! and there is nothing else i'd ride!

That's true.Problems can be blown out to sound like major common faults.I did see a Bonneville black with oil all over the top end.I guess from the valve cover gasket leaking but the rest I've seen had no leaks.
Also thanks to everyone for the imput. It looks like a Speedmaster will be following me home in a few months

I have a '04 Thruxton - super reliable. The only 'problem' is a snapped clutch cable at 6600 miles. That's usual wear and tear so could not be happier...
