Anyway, I pulled into a fuel station and a trail of crankcase oil is following me! A pinhole oiled down the rear of my Bonnie and tire. Might have been bad if I decided to push the curves a bit!

I ran a screw into the filter to stop the bleeding and went home and bought the $18.00 OEM filter. worth it to me (now).

A skid plate is in my future as well.
The SuperTech filter from Walmart is the same size as the OEM filter, is made for WM by Champion, and sells for less than $3. My closest Triumph dealer is 90 miles away, so the SuperTech (6607 IIRC) is not only cheaper, it's more convenient. The skid plate's a good idea, will look into it.

Luziana, thanks for the info.

My local Wally-world does not stock the Champ filter. I would prefer to buy it because they are manufactured 3 miles from my home.I will check other stores.

A friend of mine who is an engineer at Champ told me that the Supertech filters for my Jeep have better quality paper than the Fram filters. Could be a biased opionion

Probably a moot point in the future because the parent company for Champion Labs just purchased Fram.

^ But does that mean they'll improve the Fram quality?

probably not. Champ is looking at expanding production (Fram lines). Our town is a finalist. Probably will offer some Fram engineers jobs here if we get the expansion. Will make filters on same linesmdont know about paper and components though.

Aussie Ryco filters Z436

for Australia
there was some talk about using a Ryco z445 but seems they wont screw up and seal as the dimension from the seal to the strat of the thread is too shallow

use a Z436 as it is 8mm from the seal to the start of the thread, about the same as the OEM filter. fitted one last night and work well. confirmed with Ryco and it has an anti drain back with a 15psi bypass.

Also in OZ you can use K&N KN-204 but they are charging around $20 for them and can get genuine for $20.Go figure. Will check out the Ryco ones for price now.

I'm with you there Kem, I do not support any Wal-mart. Support your local dealers and all your locally owned stores and they will be there for you. The big stores don't care about you.

Personally I'd stick with the Triumph Filter. I was supplied with a "filter which fit" once for my old S3. The flow rate was wrong and it totalled the main bearing on number three pot. Scrimping on oil and filters is a false economy in my book.
