08' Bonneville Black Electrical Charging Question

I understand there is a wiring issue with the charging capabilities on the new Bonnevilles'. Apparently the wire size/guage which connects from the stator to the regulator and to the battery is too small for the distance it covers. I also understand there is a relatively easy fix to this problem; simply add heavier guage wires in the appropriate places. This is where I have a problem. I'm color blind and have no experience with electrical wiring. Is there anyone out there that has performed this modification and taken photos which they would like to share? I have an 08' Bonneville Black which isn't even broken in yet, so I don't want to attempt this modification without some very specific instructions and photos to follow. I can get my wife to help me with the color coding. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Additionally, I would be willing to pay for this information if that would help? I've been riding over 40 years and have learned to perform the majority of the routine maintenance tasks, but fooling around with electrical wiring scares me to death! Early thanks for any help on this issue. You can email me direct at mayrel@hughes.net

Take a look in the mods section here. I posted a link (originally by someone else) to a great article on just what you ask. I think it was named "charging system upgrade"
Have fun!!

It's not an "issue", although you can upgrade it if that makes you feel better.

I'm with Balto on this one. This is not an issue. I don't think many people have found the need to do this. The standard wiring works just fine for most people. Are you planning to fit a multi-megawatt lighting system or something? If so, you'll need to do a bit more than fit some thicker wire. You haven't even run the thing in yet and you're planning on ripping the wiring loom apart? I guess you'll still expect Triumph to honour the warranty after you've done it? Please just run the thing in and get to know it before you start ripping it apart.

I didn't know there was one. Some owners are reporting having the original battery in for 6 seasons. I know I did. As for distance,...were only talking about 25 to 30 inches??

Maybe I missed something? Could this refer to extra lighting? I have to agree with PAAS on this one. If you need thicker wires maybe a higher output alternator is required.

Are you adding any high current devices?
