Clacking Noise When Turning Engine Off

I'm a new Bonnie Black owner and I just love this bike:. It is my first motorcyle and I'm glad I went with the Triumph. Now my newbie question. Is it normal for the bike to make some sort of clacking noise(coming from the left side gear box housing) when I turn off the engine? Thanks for your help in advance and this is a great site!

Its just the engine cooling down, cars will do the same thing.
Congrats on the new bike.

Do you mean the noise occurs during engine shutdown or after it has stopped? A noise during shutdown in the area you described could indicate a problem in the clutch assembly.
Otherwise it may just be the exhaust cooling down, and nothing to sweat over.

Noise

Mine has always made a little click when I shut down. I think it has to do w/ the way the starter works on these things?? Never been a prpblem in 4+ yrs!

Mine does it too - sort of clackety-clack - when I switch off. I guessed at the starter clutch, but don't know.

Question Clack

ot sure how Triumph does it? Havent looked @ the Haynse enuff to figure it out & never had a problem there so? Buids HD seems to have a starter like a car that goes rite in a flywheel sorta thing. Sounds like a car when it starts? Bonne sounds a whole lot different. When you shut it down there is a whir/ clak sound. Always has been. Figure its normal after 4+ yrs? If it aint broke- who cares!!!

I think the whirring clacking sound is almost on the ball on mine. I will double check again in the morning after I do a short ride. Thanks Guys!

Yes, it occurs during shutdown. I'm hoping it won't be a problem. If it becomes worse then dealer here I come.

Hi...my new Thruxton (1200 miles only) makes a consistent noise every time I shut it off. It's not alarming to me...just sounds like the primary drive gears and clutch flopping around as the crankshaft comes to a halt and may rock back a little. Can you record the sound and post a link to it?

If not, I can record my bike and post it. Just let me know!

Cheers,
BLIGHT:

Hey Blight,

I have no recorder but I checked it again this morning after a quick ride and the sound is not as alarming as I thought. It's a whirring/clacking sound and it seems like it is part of the shutdown. Thanks.
