After 6 weeks of mods, a new Thrux
Hi everyone !
After a 6 weeks in my garage, it took all of 3 days to rack up a 1000 km. Every mod came after reading and lurking on this forum for months to (a) decide on a Thrux and (b) get advice on every single mod.
Pics at http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-talk...ml#post1062470
So what's she got ? From the front to the back we have
1. Racetech springs and gold emulators. 2 turns on the emulators, 0.9 kg/mm springs, 10wt fork oil. 29 mm sag with adjusters halfway down with rider.
2. Xenon hi/low replacement kit.
3. Pretech 6 pot caliper plus braided lines front and back.
4. Aluminum knob adjusters on the forks.
5. Triumph for gaitors.
6. Napolean bar ends.
7. AI removal.
8. FCR39 carbs
9. K&N cone filters
10. Airbox removal kit
11. Fender removal kit
12. Ohlins rear shocks, 25 mm sag with rider
12. Lucas tail light plus stock turn signals, custom machined.
13. Flashing brake light and chrome frame.
14. Zard 2 into 1 exhaust (loud !!!)
15. Scorpio alarm with all the trimmings.
After months of lurking, I feel I'm now in a position to give advice. Did everything myself, except for driving on new fork seals, which I had done at my dealer, Inglis Cycle in London Ontario.
Bring the questions on !

I rode it for 300 km, realized it wasn't quite as sharp as my Daytona 675, and went to work on it. Still not as sharp, but actually loads and loads of fun. Went for a coffee in Stratford Ontario this past weekend and I might as well have been driving a Ferrari. Huge, huge crowd around it when I parked.

Yeah, all those things should make quite an improvement in performance and handling. And then some for looks too.
What was the biggest improvements/most happy with if you can pick some..?

Biggest improvement is the suspension. It was waaaay too floaty for my taste. Then again my taste has been developed over 28 years of Suzuki, Kawasaki and Honda sport bikes (on and off over that time). The Daytona 675 was light years ahead of any of them. Score 1 for Triumph.
With what I've done, I can carve a corner and confidently drag the pegs with the stock tires. It was also the most time consuming mod, having to pull the forks apart, get the damper rods out, get the preload spacers right etc. etc.
The FCR39s K&Ns and Zard add a lot as well. Huge, huge midrange and upper end bump. I'd guess 15 RWHP at least. I had to add a Pingle fuel valve as I was exceeding the stock fuel spigot's capacity and leaning out heavily. Bike pulls redline no problem and if I sat back, I bet I could pull a wheelie. But none of that foolishness at my age.
The FCRs take quite a bit of work to dial in correctly. I ordered them from British Customs jetted for the Zard (which I bought from a local shop that I found via ebay...took a week drop shipped to my door). Then I started mucking with them since it was cold in the mornings and I don't think I have them right yet. Gonna get them setup at my first service next week. I've ordered the Zip Ty fuel screws which should help. But even as is, they are clearly a hp/torque increaser.
There is more driveline chatter at low rpm (less than 1500) though. Maybe my carb settings. I'm also going to transfer the carb heaters from my stock carbs to the FCRs. This should clean up the idle when cold. 6 twists of the throttle though and you don't really miss the choke. The residual stumble when cold should go away when I get them setup right and add the carb heaters. So far, am not missing a choke.

It reads as if you have transformed the bike. Bet you are one happy puppy.
Did you get the Öhlins with or without piggyback?

Sounds like you've done lots of good solid work to the Thrux. I would advise before attempting to install carb heaters that you search out the thread that explains (a) their purpose, and (b) the logic circuit that turns them on and off. You may not want to go thru this exercise after reading it.

fender eliminator kit
did you make that fener eliminator kit yourself?
it looks like you are using all the stock lights, but have a magical bracket to support it all.
any info would be great.

I doubt that, but if you like the new one good for you. I run Mikuni HSR 42mm flatslides, and my bike will run several city blocks with the stock petcock turned to OFF. I can't see how it would starve the engine while running under normal circumstances.
