I can get a swinging deal on Dunlop & Avon 160/70-17 rear tires. Is anyone running a 160 rear tire on a stock rim? Any clearance problems? Inquiring minds want to know.

One of the major bike mags recently had an in-depth explanation of why wide is not always better. Can't remember the details but the gist of it was that you have to lean over way more than you would with a narrower tire to get the benefit of the tire's profile. The bottom line was that you can actually lose handling ability and traction with some applications. Made sense to me, anyway...

I have a 160/60 rear and I think it's an improvement in handling over stock but I'm sure there are more optimal tire sizes if better handling is what you are looking for. I was looking for a more "meaty" rear tire so I got the widest that would fit. I wish I had gotten a 160/70. No fitment issues, whatsoever.
