Exhaust Leak?

What is the best way to determine whether or not you have an exhaust leak at the head?

I can't tell by sound.

Should there be any air blowing around the front of the engine, does the oil cooler or anything else expell any air?

Why would my right header go blue but not the left one?

Backround: This started when I installed my Specialty Spares TT pipes on my '07 Bonne T100. I used stock gasket and some permatex copper gasket.

My tach isn't vibrating or bouncing back and forth, which is the only way I know to check for a leak.

I am mostly concerned about having one pipe go blue, I don't want one side to be much hotter than the other, right?

Thanks in advance.

If you have a exhaust leak at the head, you should be able to feel exhaust around the ports. Another sign of leakage is decel popping. If you let off the throttle does the bike backfire through the exhaust?

I do get a bit of popping, but I have not yet done the rejet, so I assumed that this was why.

I recommend that you create an exhaust leak momentarily to familiarize yourself with the sound. Just loosen the header to head nuts a little bit and start the engine. That should clarify it for you.

Haha, nice. I thought that only the JJ was for razzing people.

When I initially installed the pipes I had a leak. This one I could hear quite clearly.

Now I hear (for lack of a better medium) a "ffit, ffit, ffit" sound, that I think is coming from the front of the engine, but I'm not sure because as I said there is no feeling of air rushing out to the pulses of the engine, the way it does through the tail pipe.

Does the cooler in the front blow hot air?

I don't have a build up of soot, so I must be in the clear for leaks?

Does anybody have any theories or explanations as to why only one pipe when blue?
