Side Stand Switch??
Just tried to go for a ride and got nothing . Didn't even turn over. Seem to have plenty of battery, lights bright etc.
From what I've read here, it sounds like the side stand switch.
If it is can I make the switch by cutting the wires and bringing them together?
Thanks

Don't you just love the regulators looking after our well being?. One more thing to go bad. Remove it and hook the wires together if that doesn't work leave them open. It depends on how the switch is hooked up.

Sidestand legacy
Sidestand switch is legacy of Lucas, Prince of Darkness,
and to be bypassed at all costs. Just remember, first thing upon
mounting, RAISE SIDESTAND.

Had my sidestand switch go bad recently, and it was no problem starting the bike in neutral. But as soon as I got near the gear lever, it died.
You have to unplug the connector and use a wire to close it, open = sidestand down.
(Also, my Haynes manual got this wrong, causing me some head scratching while troubleshooting it.)
edit: could it be the neutral switch? Then it would require you to have the sidestand up and clutch lever in to fire up if I got it right...?

Good point - with a bum sidestand switch it should still start in neutral. Same with clutch safety switch.
If it still doesn't crank in neutral I'd suspect: loose battery cables or other wiring faulty, bum solenoid (does it click?), killswitch (check position?), ignition switch, or starter switch.
Start with inspection of the battery and other wiring. Next, this should all be testable with a ohmmeter - start at the ignition switch and work your way down the circuit.

Try bumping the motor with a "push" start or rolling down a hill. You could have other, more serious problems if the motor won't turn. You might even pull the plugs and spin it by hand using the rear wheel.

Starter Selinoid
I was able to test the side stand switch with jumpers and it did not solve the issue. I was able to jump the starter selinoid and start the engine. Tested the kick stand and kill switch, and put the bike in gear and the clutch switch worked too. So I've come to the conclusion that the starter selinoid is bum. So I'm back riding with a screw driver until my new selinoid arrives.
Thanks for all the replies
