Plug in top of Scrambler engine

I caught a 12 mm bolt skipping down the street ahead of me this afternoon and I stopped and picked it up. It's black and looks like it came off my bike. I couldn't find from whence it came, so I stopped by the dealership - no luck there either. While looking, I pointed out a hole on top of the engine and was told that there's usually a plug in there and it "looks like you blew yours out." The mechanic didn't seem concerned and we had bigger fish to fry (looking for the mystery bolt's home) so I let it slide.

Anyone else out there blow out the little rubber plug in top of Scrambler engine? (look down in-between the exhaust pipes and the cylinder wall - should see a little rubber plug about the size of a dime) Anyone know what this is - do I need a new one?

I think I know what you mean...

I noticed a plastic plug melting last week and kinda freaked out until I remembered a pic I saw on NB for some chrome piece....
Hey Skid, check out this link:

does that look familiar?
I'm not sure which bikes use that wire clamp but I have a plug on my Bonnie, or a melted plug...
Hope this helps.

Moesyzlak, what you're referring to is where a wire routing clip was on models prior to 2006 or 2007. The wires were routed differently after that and the clip became redundant, but the hole is still there in the engine case.

It's a blind hole, you can just leave it empty. I threw away the wire clip the day it came loose and put split loom over the wires.

Hey, this is really helpful. For the people on this link, are there two of these open holes? My 2006 T-100 seem to have two. One where by the serial number stamp and the other on the other side of the engine.

Thanks.
