Ikon shocks shot

My 01 Bonnie's Ikon Performance shocks started leaking around their seals, and all the damping went away after only 12-13K miles. Anybody else had this problem? If so, did you rebuild them, and what oil/seals did you use? Thanks, tommyturbo2

Man, that sounds very early for this kind of problem. I have the same shocks but only 7k on them, and will be interested in hearing your results.

ikons shot

There are some rough roads here in Oklahoma, but I avoid most of them. I've received an email from Ikon regarding the problem, and they've offered to rebuild them, but it ain't cheap! I'm very disappointed in the shocks durability, and will probably go to a different brand. It's obvious their quality control is pretty poor for them to have failed so soon. One of my riding buddys has the exact same shock on an 01 Bonnie, and in a similar amount of mileage all of his damping is gone too, and he weighs about 60# less than I do!

Anybody else with these shocks, try this test: Set the damping on 4, and bounce your butte up and down on the saddle. Listen for any hydraulic sounds coming from the shock, and observe the rebound action. Is the shock returning to full extension on rebound with no damping action? Try it, and post the results here. tommyturbo2

How much did they quote to rebuild them?

Suggest you read the recent suspension wizard thread
I am no expert & someone may correct me but my understanding is that the Ikon is an emulsion type shock that has no means of separating the oil & gas. It works OK provided it is not pushed too hard , rough roads /dirt roads etc & the oil & gas soon get mixed to form what is referred to as a milkshake shock where damping fades away & the shock is just a stiff pogo stick
Rebuilds are relatively simple but it will foam up & die again if pushed hard. Sounds like you need to upgrade , trouble is quality costs & you really only get what you pay for
There will be plenty of guys out there who find Ikons good & I am not bashing them, but I don't think they stand up to a demanding rider on rough roads very well

Short life Ikons

My Ikons started leaking last week after 5000 miles. About 2000 of those miles are on Some rough Mexican roads. I think I'm going to upgrade to a better shock. I like the looks but never really cared for the performance.

I have Ikon's on my T100 with over 15k miles on them. No problems and I live in Pa with probably THE worst roads in the US.
