Question Today's fork and emulator install

With a friend, today I installed the racetech emulators, springs and the damping rods and preload adjusters from traxxion. It's stiff as hell. Was wondering if anyone else who did this type of mod experienced this. I noticed that the new springs are about an inch longer than the stock. One thing I didn't do was to add new fork oil - forgot to get new stuff. I was careful to keep the stuff that was already in the forks and put it back in. Not sure what weight it was. Might that contribute to the stiffness?
thanks.

Just got my forks back from Rick Tannenbaum at Cogent Dynamics in Fairview NC www.motocd.com.

Race Tec.90 Fork Springs. 35.2x.340mm.90mm
Race Tec Fork Emulator "Gold Valves"
SVI Rock Oil 20W.

Tuned in to my weight and riding style. Will have the bike put together today and ready for a test ride. Can't believe the wimpy junk Triumph puts in for fork springs and tin can spacers

Got everything together, and took it out for a test run. It is like night and day. Now to match up shocks.

Hey Fr. Joe

Don't know how critical it is but i think fork oil volume differs depending on what is in the fork...Bear in mind you added longer springs ,valves etc thereby displacing more oil and reducing the remaining air space...There is usually a determined measurement for the air space with the forks fully compressed... If you over fill them there is a danger of blowing fork seals...not trying to alarm you but might be worth checking...Peter Jenks, i know did this same mod himself with great success and am sure there are others here who know more than me....

best of luck
AK

Ps
Did you drill out the old damping tube?

thanks, will look peterj. up. didn't drill out tube, installed a new one from traxxion with two much larger holes. Your comment about oil displacement and larger springs makes sense. will talk to my wrench friend who did the work for me about that consideration.

I did this earlier this year, and yes it was much stiffer than before but that was part of the goal. It sounds like there's too much oil in the forks. Did you just use the same quantity fork oil you removed, or did you set the oil height spec'd in the instructions in the Traxxion kit? Since the new parts (damper, emulator, spring, spacer) are different than the originals, you probably will have too much oil in the forks if you used the same quantity. Did you set the static sag to spec after reassembly? I ended up with the preload set 4+ marks out on the adjusters and it was a huge improvement over stock - very little dive yet smooth over minor bumps. I initially had it at 3 turns out (as spec'd in the manual), but it was too stiff and not enough static sag. HTH,

Rob
