Carb Questions on '07 Bonnie

Hello All,

I haven't really posted before but now it's about time. I've got about 2800Miles on my '07 Bonneville Black

Mods from the dealer include: TORS Mufflers?(looks like stock only louder), AI Removed, Carbs Rejetted by dealer (i have to find out jet sizes they used), Still running the stock airbox/filter.

Question. On the top left side of the airbox, there's a open port hole. I noticed the other day that when I rev the engine, air puffs out of the hole. Is this normal? I assumed that it was a venting chamber but I thought I'd check with the experts first.

I'm probably going to replace the stock filter with a K/N or UNI filter soon. I'm also going to recheck the sync on the carbs when I get off work tonight.

I get quite a lot of popping on deceleration, but from what I gather this is fairly normal.

Cheers,
Joe

until an expert weighs in...

Isn't that hole where the air injection return line used to be? If so, the AI elimination kit should have supplied a plug for it. Mine had a loose fit so I used some contact cement to secure it. Perhaps yours came off or was never installed?

I would not be happy if that was the case. I always considered the bike to run well, but maybe it should be running better.

It was definitely never there. I just recently noticed the puffs of air the other day when I was playing with the carb sync.

Just ckecked my bike. That's where the plug from the AI removal goes.

Not fairly normal. Mine was rejetted, aibox modified, added K&N filter, AI removed and I don't get any popping at all on deceleration, (maybe I'm one of the lucky ones?)

You should indeed plug that hole in the airbox. Go yell at your dealer about it, they should have done that.

Your popping may be from running a bit lean. I got the same thing when I put TORS on mine. First thing to try is adjusting the mixture screws out a half turn on the carbs. Also check for leaks on the exhaust - most likely around joints. They will cause popping too.

You should be able to get set up so that the exhaust does not pop at all.

I should have kept my mouth shut about the popping

Right before I left for work I found exhaust leaks where both mufflers clamp to the head pipes. I'll be fixing that when I get home.

You know... I spent enough years tinkering and fighting with my '80 CB650 that I should have found this crap before now.

thanks for the input

Cheers,
Joe

Noticed Your in Indy

Did you get that 07' from Indy Triumph? If they installed the AI elimination I know they'll take care of you on missing plug (it probably came out if it wasn't sealed).

I have found that the handlebar end plugs for bicycles works great. May have to trim some from the end but a soild fit. Currently have Red and Black B from Bontrager bar ends on - a little thing but adds some bilng.

Thanks for the Tip. I might do that if I dont have time to get back to the dealer.

res1uqte - Yes, I got the bike at Indy Triumph. Unfortunately, I'm running around like crazy right now without a lot of time. I'm gonna call the dealer to see if they can provide me with the plug.

thanks for all the input. I'm curious to see what kind of difference this makes because the bike seems to run well as it is (except for the popping).

Cheers,
Joe
