Using Floor Jack to Lube Chain

Searched this and could not find answers but .... My son recently purchased a Speed Triple (Oh to be young and have money) and we were lookng to clean and lube chain. Pulled out the trusty lift and "Holy No Lower Frame" I could not figure out a way to lift S3 with the Arrow 3 in 1 Shorty Pipes. So not willing to give up easily, we started to look for alternatives. Placed floor jack under shock support (only frame member I could find) and with me holding bike- gently lifted. Low and Behold, it worked great. Wheel just barely off floor, very stable and the voila - clean and lube done. This got me thinking - always dangerous - so I tried with my T100. Placed jack under frame crossmember and using stand as pivot/brace, lifted bike easily. Very stable and much faster than bike lift for chain clean and lube.

Before I try this again (I clean and lube a lot), anyone else have experience/experiences with this method? What am I harming and what are possible problems? I wonder if the weight load is too much for the sidestand. I will continue to use lift for big tasks but may stick to this method for this simple task unless you guys can talk me out of it.

I've cut a wood block to fit between my floor jack and lower frame on the Thruxton. I did the same with my 01 Tiger. I'll have to rethink this now that I'm getting an exhaust that fits under the belly.

I've used a car jack on my Bonnie, just aligned the slot in the jack with the centerstand mount. Appeared to be very stable

I use a floor jack on my Bonnie. I put the jack under the center stand mount and it works fine. I do worry that it might be too much for the side stand, but I've done this about 10 times and haven't had a problem yet.

Same here,...piece of 2x4 across mounting area for full stand. Lifts sure and stable. Sometimes if I need more height, I will place a piece of 2x4 under the sidestand as I jack the bike higher. Maintain the proper lean angle and all seems fairly safe and stable.

If it works, don't change it.

Of course i bought a centerstand for my Bonnie right off. Worth every penny!
