Try reversing the connections. If that works, mark them so it doesn't happen again. Also while you're down there, look for shorts--compromised insulation--in the wires going to it.
Did you ground the horn as shown in the "one-terminal" instructions? If so, take that grounding wire off. It should be wired with one connector from the bike to each terminal and no grounding wire.
If the above don't work, do what the Captain says and make sure that it's insulated, but many of us install them without insulating them.
The horn might smack the fender if you hit a hard bump and brake simultaneously, especially if you have the stock fork springs. You can try adjusting it so that doesn't happen, or consider mounting it under the tank, a great location for it if you've removed the AI.
