Question Carb screws

There is a brass, allen head screw at the bottom of each carb, in a recessed hole, facing outwards. The one on the left carb appears to be screwed all the way in, and the one on the right is turned quite a ways out, with the entire head out of the recess. What are these for? Should they be adjusted the same? I'm a novice when it comes to carbs. The bike runs great. I have shorty emgo's, and it was backfiring on deceleration, but I packed them with 'glass today, and it seems to have helped, but I only rode it around the yard, and up and down the driveway.
Thanks for any assistance,
Arnie

I think you may be looking at the 3mm Allen head screws used to drain the float bowls. If you take them out .... big surprise .... gasoline will start pouring out.

Yes, they're the drains. Don't worry that one sticks out farther than the other, they're all like that.

And, be very careful with over tightening any of the carburetor bolts, they strip easily.
