With the 865 cams, a 904 kit with high comp pistons, and a nark you will be all-torque. My motor is 865, ported/gasflowed/skimmed head, open pipes and k&n pods, the midrange torque is PHAT! But after 85 mph it just runs outta steam, although it has 70 rwhp, the curve really is rather flat after 5500 rpm. I blame that on the tiny little asthmatic carbs trying to suck in all that air, as well as the softie 865 cams.

But the midrange torque at 60 lb ft (recent test) rear wheel is just massive. On the downside it hits reserve at 90 miles, even with short shifting to exploit the torque, but its running way too rich. IMO unless the cams/carbs are changed, all the attempts to make the engine breathe (headwork, airbox, exhaust) will just emphasise the curve characteristics, ie where the power comes on, fades where the torque poke lies etc, but may move that curve further or lower down the rev range.
