broken bike
i just bought a T100 about 5 weeks ago. This is the first bike ive ever bought, and ever really ridden. After riding it a few times, i feel like something was wrong. In first gear, i would have to rev it pretty high to get goin, and when i would slow down i would have to ride the clutch pretty hard or else the bike would sputter pretty bad. And only one of the headers coming out of the engine was turning blue. So i brought it back to the dealership for them to check it out. Turns out only one cylinder was working the whole time!! So already i was pretty pissed off, i bought a brand new bike, first time buyer, and only half of it is working! Now, i love the bike. I understand that the factory makes thousands of bikes a year, its normal for maybe a few not to be perfect. Anyway...the dealership has had my bike for 2 weeks now!!! im getting very anxious! The dealership wont return my calls, or emails. the dealership is a hour drive from where i live, or i would just go down there. I just wanted to ask you guys how i should handle this with the dealership? Is this a serious enough problem with the bike, would i be justified in using the "lemon law" and get a new bike??
thanks guys

Hummm - is the dealers name by chance . . . No better yet, do you live in lower Fairfield County CT and bought your bike locally?
I smell trouble! Not returning phone calls is extremely problematic to me on many levels; especially when you bought a brand new bike! Keep us in the loop and maybe we can pwned the dealer publicly!

Call the triumph service rep in Georgia and raise some hell about the dealer.
The number's on the website.
Call the BBB about the dealer.
Call the dealer 79 times a day until they answer the darn phone.
Drive an hour and give them hell in person.
Those are your choices. Do one, two, more or all.

If the bike is still under warranty it will be an aggravation but keep on top of the dealer and contact headquarters in Georgia if needed. But get the idea of filing a lemon law claim out of your head because almost all states do not cover motorcycles under the applicable statute. I speak with experience because I arbitrate BBB cases for a major auto maker and handle the entire northeast and have yet to see a state that covers motorcycles under the lemon law.
The other thing to remember is to maintain your cool and keep it professional and remember the most important thing - you get more flies from honey than you do from vinegar. Stick to your guns but f you are too annoying it will only make things worse.

Colin - how did you deduct Georgia from his thread?
Anyway, like Colin said - it is a well known fact, "A Squeaky Wheel gets the Grease"! Well, also, "It rubs the lotion on itself"

Confront the Dealer
Even thought they are an hours drive away, you are going to have to confront them in person. Find out what is wrong with your bike, when will it be ready and remind them that you have been emailing and ringing them for info, all to no avail.
be polite, but very firm.... ranting and raving gets nowhere
it also helps if you have a couple friends that are about 6'6'' tall, built like Conan the Barbarian having a bad day to come along and back you up.

Hedge, I think he was referring to Triumph's U.S. office located in Newnan, Georgia (just south of Atlanta).

Call Triumph America
If you don't get satisfaction from the dealer, call Triumph America:
Triumph Motorcycles (America) Ltd.
385 Walt Sanders Memorial Drive
Suite 100
Newnan, Georgia 30265
Main Telephone: (678) 854-2010
Ask for Peter Carleo
After having problems with my dealer dragging his feet on a repair, I called Peter. My bike was ready for pick-up the very next day.
Also, regarding the loaner, I just completed the online survey for Triumph and one of the questions was about the dealer offering a Triumph as a loaner. Apparently that is a secret some dealers like to keep as I have never been offered one, so be sure to ask for one and let Peter know if they refuse. I bet he will get you satisfaction!

Here's the best peice of advice you could have gotten. There is nothing scareier than getting the personal phone call from the head cheese! It so reminds me of Junior and Senior HIGH school - "Hedge to the Principle's office, will Hedge report to the Principle's office now"! UhOh!
