Broken Gas cap
Yep my Triumph lockable gas cap has broken.
So can’t fill up with our expensive UK petrol.
Rang Triumph this morning and they were very apologetic.
Apparently there is a new modified version out so it should be replaced under warranty.
Both gas caps have always been too tight; just don’t know how they will get the old one off?

broken gas cap
Likely way to get the broken one off would be to drill out the brass inner tumbler of the lock, yank it out with a dent puller tool, use a flat bladed screwdriver to unlock the cap and off she comes.
That's what I used to do as a locksmith anyway.
Of course with the broken cap in place, you aren't gonna use much gas so that's a plus.

Maybe the dealer has done this before and can do it quickly and at no cost since the part is a warranty deal (if you have the gas to get there). Drilling may work but you may get filings in the tank or worse have the bit slip or make the cap completely unremovable.

WD40 in keyhole if it has one?
I was at a gas station IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE nearing empty and my cap would not unlock (keylock, not vaporlock, another story)!
My riding bro suggested turning a screwdriver (without vodka, which I couldn't stomach) in the keyhole. HA, not on my bike! The station happened to have a compact spray bottle of WD40 for sale. Stick "tube" in (key) hole, squirt > it opened like new (was using dry graphite regularly as maintenance gesture, but wasn't enough)... Hope this helps!

this isn't a Triumph locking cap story, but my girlfriend lost the key to her locking gas cap and I was able to get it open VERY EASILY with just a thin flathead screwdriver. I promplty tossed it in the trash and bought a non-locking cap.

Gas cap fixed
Yep, my local Triumph dealer fixed my gas cap today, just took them about 1 hour.
They had to drill out the old lock and then hey presto.
The new gas cap has the modified seal and is much much better, very easy to unscrew.
So thanks guys at Pidcocks of Nottingham.

Yup that's exactly the same method we use to use on the steering column back in the day!
