2nd gear peculiarities
my bonnie shifts pretty nicely most of the time - but if it grinds at all, it's usually as i shift from first to second - almost as if i don't have the clutch completely in - but i DO. "grinds" is too strong a word, actually - it just doesn't shift smoothly into 2nd sometimes - and not very often. also - if actually riding in second, there's a strange kind of very light grinding feeling that i can feel throughout the bike - it's not gears, though, i'm pretty sure. don't know what to make of this. i'm open to your thoughts. so far, none of this is really freaking me out. whatever it is, it doesn't seem major.

lol your clutch probly needs adjustment from the first gear burnout attempts.if you have your cycle in first gear and pull in the clutch then hit the starter does it leasrch foward a bit? if in first gear with bike running ,clutch in if you give it throttle does bike want to take off some?

lol - hey - i'm not abusive to the old girl - just testing the threshold, that's all.
i'll have to try what you suggested - i never start the bike in first - always in neutral w/ no clutch. i'll try those two tests and report back, if i can remember. thanks for the feedback.

Shift Problems
1st of all- What year is your Bonne? 2nd- is your clutch adjusted properly? A dimes clearance when cold? There could be a# of reasons you are experiencing what you are.
The answer to the above would help a LOT if figuring whats up? Let us know!

my bonneville is an april 2001 model, as per my signature. as to the dime's worth of clearance, i'm ashamed to admit that even though i've put about 3000 miles on my bike, i've never mucked with the clutch. i guess i'll hit the haynes and learn a little about it, hey?
thanks,
~m

2nd
I think we did a thing on this in another thread. Should have a dime clearance in the freeplay on the lever. Your bike as mentioned had a clutch issue. Check em both & check back!

told you guys i'd get back to you on this. i don't have either of these problems. no lurching forward, does not want to take off prematurely. i think it's just a clutch adjustment problem. i'm actually going to sober up and deal with this problem this morning. or this afternoon, as the case may be.
