taking off from first gear

hi guys.
i've been experimenting with releasing the clutch in different ways lately - particularly letting it go quicker for a more sudden take-off from a stopped position... testing the boundaries, you might say. am i supposed to be able to burn a little rubber if i wanted to? because, without really, REALLY gassing it, i don't think my bonnie is able to do so - in fact, i find it kinda sluggish from a stopped position. is this attributable to its especially ungainly weight? i'm not one of those annoying badasses that goes about peeling out when the light turns green... i just want to know how easily my bike is supposed to be able to accomplish this.

if you want to spin the back tire on take off.you have to give it alot of throttle and dump the clutch . but once the tire brakes loose do not chop the throttle .let off easy as you can get yourself tossed .leave your feel off the pegs the first couple of tries as it helps to correct bike if it starts to slide.be sure your ready for some fun when tire hooks back up.dont get hurt.ps you do know once you start doing this kind of thing it takes alot of years to get yourself to stop,beating on your bikes and killing tires.

From a stop, rev it to about 5,500 rpms and dump the clutch.


























Just kidding, do not do that!
But you can or should try giving it more throttle, if I am understanding your question.
In your other post about 2nd gear, most likely, even though you think you are doing things right. I suspect you are not shifting cleanly. Its also possible your new clutch cable has stretched a little and needs to be re-adjusted.
If you don't have a repair manual, get one yesterday because you'd be surprised how much a new person can do as far as maintenece goes.

lol - hey guys, calm down - i wasn't necessarily looking for a "how-to" on peeling out - just thought my bike ought to be able to take off with a little more "pep" than what does - maybe i'm just losing fear of my ride... i definitely ride with greater confidence and have definitely gotten bolder with her over the last year (my first year of ownership).

i hear what you're saying about the manual. i have the Good Book (triumph shop manual) and the haynes book - and you're right - seems like a lot of this stuff isn't that difficult, if you're at all mechanically inclined, which i seem to think i am. i'll see if a little clutch adjustment solves my issue - and i'll quit dumping the clutch at intersections. ha!

Question 2001 Bonne

Your Bonne had a clutch issue (recall) Did your bike get it done?? Might be why it is dogging on you @ lights? A thought?

it's an april 2001 unit. from what i understand, they got the kinks worked out by then - but... you never know...

AND HEY! - is it too late to get it re-done by triumph if there was a recall???? that would be sweet. i suspect that there was a small window of opportunity that has long since passed. do you know any different?
