Help Removing D&D baffles
Hi folks,
I attempted to do a little surgery on my D&D's this weekend. Planned on cutting the stock paking back a bit and stuffing them with Silent Sport packing. Had a hell of a time getting the baffles out, in fact I gave up before I ruined something.
How the heck do you get them out without buggering up the end of the baffle ?
Any advice will be appreciated.
Thanks,
jed

There's a number of different approaches.
My favorite, is to take a very small flat blade screwdriver and cover it with electrical tape. Then find a wee gap between the muffler and end-cone. insert the scredrive blade and twist ever so carefully, to pry the cap away from the mega-phone. The end-cap will start to seperate from the megaphone. do this a couple of places and you can then twist it out by hand.
another option is to insert a hammer handle inside the baffle and use it to pull the end cap out.
Maybe even a slide hammer or something to hook the baffle from the inside and pull.
I've 25,000 miles and 4 or 5 re-packs on mine now and the little screwdriver trick hasn't failed me or scratched anything yet

mine were tough to get out, but I did it via the careful screwdriver method.

I can get the end cap off no problem, the baffle is stuffed in there something fierce. I guess i'll try using a hammer handle.

To which part is the Baffle "Stuffed" ? Is it inside the end-cap ? or inside the megaphone.
If it's in the end-cap use a little penetrating lubricant to release it. If it's in the megaphone - grab it with a pair of vice-grips and twist

When did you do your first repack? I have about 5000 miles on mine now, just wondering when others did theirs?
Thanks,
Nathan

I repack mine every 5,000 miles or thereabouts, you can hear it start to sound flat, and by then a good portion of the packing has burnt up
