I talked to them before I bought here at Streit's in Gainesville and they told me they couldn't match the price, so I bought here.

Change the plugs & drain tank-first

Bonnie's are notorious for fouling plugs when the bike has been ridden for mostly short rides or when gas sits in the tank too long and degrades. Change the plugs, drain the tank-fill with fresh gas then take Bonnie out fort a nice long ride.

Actually, most of my riding is for long rides. I had just returned from a 350 mile trip before this started. BUT I had signs of trouble ahead with intermittent difficulty in starting for the past few weeks. I told the dealer this when I took it in for the 12 month checkup and they found nothing wrong.

They are getting it back today and I told them to keep it overnight and try starting in the morning. My luck, it'll fire right up...

How shops work

I can understand the frustration. Recently I had problems with my Jeep Grand Cherokee occasionally refusing to crank. It was not the battery, a fuse or the starter. The current was not getting to the starter when this happened. There were really only two possibilities-the starter relay or the starter switch.

I told them but their computer didn't show a "code". If was working they could not figure out how it might not work. These are good guys and the shop is good but they just couldn't do the logic. I told them to replace the relay ($10 part) and I pay for it even tho it was under warranty. They did and it solved the problem and the warranty did cover it.

Most mechanical problems are solved with sequential logic which is what the computer does within its parameters. But, inductive reasoning is what a good human mechanical mind can do. Shops find very few of those these days.

I will report on what the good human mechanical minds at the dealer find.

Thanks for all the responses which have been all over the board on this seemingly common problem with the Bonnie. Not sure I am any closer to determining if this is an electrical or fuel problem, or something else. For whatever it's worth, I never had problems like this with my old '70 T120 kickstart!
