Friday Night Drags advice needed
I am going to the drag races Friday night, with some guys. I am gonna race my bike, so I have never dragged before and I don't have a tach. Any advice on how to get the best time, shifting with no tach, etc.??? It should be a fun time.

You will have to ride the clutch out the hole or it will want to stand up on you.with no tach run it till your rev limit hits then get another gear.Good luck have fun let us know how it runs. You might want to check and see what all you need to be able to run it .Some tracks you have to have a kill switch that is hooked to you if you come off the bike.

I can run my bike, they don't require a kill switch wired to me, since our bikes supposedly have a kill switch if the bike lays down. I will post some numbers, I only have a 865 with stock ARK'd carbies, so I am not expecting to much, maybe low 13's.

Try to practice some launches on a side road before you go. Try coming out at different RPMs and feather the clutch like mikeinva said. If you come out at too low an RPM you will bog, If you come out @ 7K and pop the clutch you will be looking at the sky. The first 60' of your run is the most important. Get the launch down and the rest is just a ride to the market.
When you go to the staging lights things will get busy fast, your heart will be pounding, but you need to stay calm and focused. Forget about the bike next to you in the other lane. Run your own race.
Your first run you can run it to the limiter to get the feel but you will be loosing precious time while the engine sputters then recovers, remember you are running against the clock and every .001 of a second counts.
Slowly stage your bike until the first yellow light lights up then get adjusted with your throttle hand and clutch hand and your stance ready. Only then move to light the second yellow. If they are running a regular light then you will have time to watch the yellow lights run down the tree. Leave when you see the last yellow light and by the time you react it will be green.
If they are running a pro light (I hate them), you will have no time after your staging lights are lit. All the yellows will light at the same time and you have to leave.
The first run you will nervous, only natural. After that you will be running to get in line to do it again.
Above all be safe and enjoy every minute.
It is a rush you won't forget.

Speed shift, speed shift, speed shift. Don't freak out if you pop wheelie on the start. Once you're moving never let off full throttle. Don't forget to give us the results.

Try to keep the fuel level low as to save weight, and it goes without saying proper gear. We race up here, and they won't let you on the track without proper footwear...ie...no sneakers, helmet+gloves.
Not sure what it's like where you are, but if you get there before the peak time, when all the hosers in their cagers show up, they will let you run as many passes as you can fit in.
And try to get somebody in the stands/sidlelines with a camera, both video/still.
Keep us updated.
Good luck.
