Some good advice here. Let me add.
Strap down the front end, if they will let you.
At the lights, its elbows up, weight low and as far forward as you can.
Helmet almost over head light
Right foot down, left on peg so as not to blow a shift.
Don't be afraid to abuse the crapola out of the clutch and come out of the
hole as hard as you dare...Reaction and 60' times are everything.

Good luck

I've never done anything like this before, so take my advice as you will.

First time out, take it easy. You're gonna be nervous so just try to get it right without embarrassing/damaging yourself. Just do a normal fast start, as you would in the traffic light GP.

Just my 2p.

Maybe on your bike.

Jacob-When and where? Firebird? This coming Friday? What time? Maybe I'll try to make it out.I haven't been to the drags in a long time.

I'm going to echo Echoance. Don't try to be T.C.Christianson(who?) the first time out.Be safe, and have fun.

Cheers!

Firebird @ 6:30, as many runs as you want for 20 bucks I think.

I have all the proper gear.

Thanks for all the advice, I will post my numbers, no matter how crappy they are!!!!

Controling wheelies

Great advice from all the members,,,,but I would suggest as a beginner without a tach I'd start off with your LEFT foot down and right foot on the the brake ready to stab it if a big wheelie should occur.....Bring your left foot up and shift into second as soon as it is on the peg....Should work out ok...Have fun !

dragstrip

DO NOT try to run between the tire strips. it is VERY greasy and oily there.
I found that out my first run 30 years ago.

Dubble engine Norton Drag bike rider form the 70's.
Those were the good old days.

In Canada we say "eh!". It sounds better than "huh?" as they say in the U.S. at the end of sentences. "eh!" Must be more popular since everyone in the U.S. thinks it's so universal across Canada. Maybe you guys and gals south of the border should switch,.....Hhmmm, on second, stick to 'huh?"

Met a guy named Pat from Phoenix when I was in Mazatlan, Mexico. He got a kick out of hearing other Canadians saying it occasionally after completing a sentence. Sometimes, when talking to Pat, I will complete a sentence and after an unusually long pause, (cause I know he is waiting for it) I say "eh!". His face just lights up and he says "eh!" two or three times and laughs. Can't figure out the entertainment value but it is definitely there.

Looking forward to going back this February and tossing a few back with Pat. Both him and his wife are great people.

I forgot to tell you to put a 16T sprocket on before you go. I had to switch back from a 16T to an 18T this week for some highway riding. All I can tell you is that with the 18T I feel like I lost 20 hp on take off and acceleration.
