Unhappy M Bar vibration!

Hi Everyone,

I just switched from Bella Corse Western Bars to Norman Hyde's "M" bars. The ride ergo's are perfect. Taking it out for an hour ride on the weekend I could not believe the increase in vibration! My hands were tingling after 1/2 hour.

Now with the previous Western bars I pounded in a roll of pennies wrapped in electrical tape into each bar end before installing the Football grips. There was no vibration to speak of. I might try the same with the M bars after drilling out the threaded plugs in the ends. Other thoughts are;

1. Bar snake (never tried this)
2. Filling the bar with shotgun shot and then capping off the ends with a glob of silicone or expanding foan so there is no rattling. (never tried)
3. The "Pennie" roll method

Has anyone else experienced the vibration....and what is the fix?

I have the m-bars with the plugs in the end, and I haven't had a problem with vibration. In
fact, I recently put on Triumph bar end mirrors, and they don't vibrate at all either. Must have some smooth roads down here.

Make certain your handlebars are clamped down extremely tight. This may require the use of 2 thin shims under the clamp. The clamp is designed so it will bottom out when the handlebars are tight. Problem is that it can close before the handlebars are as tight as they need to be. If there isn’t at least a tiny gap between the bottom parts and top dog-bone of the clamp, you might try reinstalling the dog-bone with a couple of thin shims under it, before you start installing weights.

I wasn't happy with the vibes on my m-bars either. I added a pile of lead to the ends by flattening fishing weights and drilling the centres out so that the end caps can be mounted (I have the plugs in the bar-ends). This helped a bit. Ran it like that for most of last year.
Just last week I found that Honda bar end weights mount similarly to our end-caps. My local dealer gave me two for $5 from a scrap bin. An M5 x 50 flat head screw was all that i needed to mount them to the existing plugs. The vibes are quite a bit better now, but still not as smooth as the original bars. At least the stock mirrors are clearer. For $7 it was a worthwhile improvement.

I posted this just recently but not sure if you spotted it ,with my Mbars the vibration was only slight but i turned up a couple of bar end weights and the vibes no longer exist, these can be bought and do realy work.
