Suspension differences Bonnie vs Scrambler

Besides the obvious Scrambler having longer shocks, is there any difference in the front end between the two ?

I recently exchanged several e-mails with a guy online who said he switched out his Bonnie's fork tubes for Scrambler fork tubes -- which are supposedly 1.8" longer. That seems strange to me because the Scrambler's shocks are about 20mm longer but the rake and trail are decreased for the Scrambler vs. the Bonnie -- which would imply that the rear is rising more than the front. If the front forks really are 1.8" longer, there's still no difference in travel and it would suggest that the frame itself is different.

I bought a couple of sets of 41mm forks (Honda XR250R and BMW F650 ST) with the intention of swapping the tubes + internals into the stock lowers, but I may actually just wind up doing the storied "Honda F3" swap. Even though the F3 is a street bike, the tubes are 1.375" longer and the travel is increased by 0.4". With a good set of adjustable length rear shocks (e.g. the YSS extra-long shocks), it shouldn't be too hard to adjust the shock length and fork position in the triples to get the desired height/travel/rake/trail.

FWIW, my dealer told me the geometry was different between the two. I mentioned the different bars and exhaust and he said the frames were different too. I don't know personally.

I could be happy with an increase in ride height, even if I didn't gain any appreciable travel in the process. I just need to figure out what the best way of doing that will be.

Bonnie forks

Very interisting posts.I would also like to know, how increasing the ride height would affect the stands, as I also have a centre stand (expensive). Orpheus do you have stock bars on your bike, I have on mine with New Bonnie risers. They are a good combo except when standing while riding the dirt and find them a bit narrow. Any suggestions. Also it might interest some but I solved my fuel tank problem with a Nomad extra tank holds 7.5ltr with 7ltr usable. It is easily removablewhen not needed, and I mount it on a Ventura rack. I keep the aux. fuel line permanently conected with 2 fuel taps (one is hidden under the seat for safety when aux tank is off. This set up cost $180 Aust. Hope to see more on fork issue. Sorry but my computer skills are i bit basic.

The guy I talked to had to have his center stand welded and had to use a Scrambler side stand, which apparently necessitated altering the bend in the left side header!

I have the stock bars. I've been a bit hesitant to get wider bars just because I lane split pretty regularly and I don't want to be smacking mirrors left and right. However, I do have 3/4" risers and modre's lowsets.

The guy I talked to also had a pretty slick seat/fuel setup. He has a Russell "day long" solo seat up front with a 5 gallon "box-style" fuel cell in back. It extends his total range to about 320 miles! trumpycam, your fuel solution sounds pretty elegant. I've been thinking of having a custom seat pan fabricated in the style of BMW GS (non-Adventure) seats, with a removable raised pillion section under which sits a mounting surface for a case or fuel cell.

Sampson makes custom fuel cells to fit any dimensions:

I'm gonna do a auxiliary fuel cell too. I plan on ordering one from Summit Racing. They have them in all varieties of shapes and capacities for 100 to 200 dollars. 1, 2, 3 and up gallons in poly or aluminum with cap, vent, and fittings.

I'm thinking about this little 3 gallon number.

It's 12 x 7 x 10 and cost 100 dollars.

Question Fuel Tank

I like the idea of extra fuel- extended range!! Looked @ the tank. Where do ya put them??
Its hard enuff trying to carry ANYTHING on a Bonne? The Rennetec has helped a lot on carrying basic travel stuff, but I cant figure WHEREyou would carry an extra 2-3 gallons of gas??

My Aux. tank bolts to the ventura rack (N.Z.made) with a high loop, over which slides a bag which then sits on the seat. This part of the rack bolts off easily and replaced by a lower bar/rack for everyday use. I always use the Aux. tank first after a fill. I also have a set of Gearsak paniers with triumph frames (not very sturdy however). Plus I also use a tank bag for longer trips. If I can work out how to do it will post photo.
