To Tach or not to Tach (Scrambler)

Well I am tying to figure out If I should add a tach to my scrambler or not. One reason why I might pass on adding one is that you can't use a tank bag. But if people think it is beneficial I might look into a tail bag instead.
What are your thought or opinions. Oh yeah, it also cost cole to $200.....
Cheers

Tank bag

Hi, a reasonably sized tank bag is no problem it will not obscure the view of the tacho. A cheaper way to go is to buy a mini tacho. Plenty of info on 'mini gauges' on this site.

I miss having a tach when I ride the Scrambler. But from a few comments I read here the optional Triumph one is oddly placed and hard to see. So I've been reluctant to spring for one. The neatest solution is CB's Scrambler. He mounted Bonneville speedometer and tach. It's kind of expensive. I'm waiting for someone to come up with a good looking functional inexpensive alternative.

If you are interested, there's a new Scrambler tach on ebay that was at $135.00 last night.

It used to bother me but now I don't mind not having a Tach.

Me too. When I want max performance I just run it into the rev limiter.

I bought the tach immediately after purchase and have enjoyed it. I ride the bike daily to work. I don't think I drive like a granny, but it takes alot to redline it and I could do without it now after almost 2 years...I could go by sound.

I agree - I never missed the tach.

I like listening to the engine and just riding by feel with the bike.

I've also got a Bonnie T-100 with a tach and don't really find it useful. I'm more interested in how fast I am going - or am I going too fast. And listening to the sound of the engine.

But maybe that's just my riding style.

If it weren't for the trip odometer, I wouldn't even need the speedo!

Smile Don't miss it

When a had my Bonnie Black, I dug deep and bought the tach kit. Since I bought the Scrambler I find that, to my surprise, I don't miss it. As stated previously, I just listen to the engine, or change up when I hit the rev limiter. (Don't do that so often these days, must be an 'age' thing). I'd spend the money elsewhere, say, nice loud pipes so you can hear the engine and then you won't need the tach!
