highway pegs - something a little different

I'm planning some longer trips this year and my old(er) knees need a break from time to time, so I'm looking for a means to stretch out my legs on these trips. I'm too cheap and/or stubborn to buy what is readily available, plus I want to be able to pop these things on and off easily.
I'm currently in the design stage. My initial design may well be scrapped for something completely different. I'll probably have a beer or three and study the problem a bit more. So anyway I'm posting the preliminary design for feedback.
(I think it will mount low enough so that nothing will crunch during aggressive braking.)

The bars are held in place with a large "pin" and a cotter pin. I only did the one view, so it may not be very clear. They aren't any wider than absolutely necessary. I want them to be as unobtrusive as possible.
Your feedback is extremely valuable… fire away, and thanks.

good work. I was thinking of using the passenger pegs too. I'd like some that matched anyway, but to buy new ones from bikebandit is expensive.

Kinda figured, I haven't priced 'em.

Talking Highway pegs

I like what you have drawn-up so far. Are you going to go with rubber or metal foot pegs?

The cotter pin idea is okay...but I'd be afraid of it popping out and having the set-up fall off and causing damage while you're rippin' along on the super slab. I'd think a bolt with locking nut (even a butterfly bolt) would still serve your purposes and be a little safer. Have you thought about using a screw-on locking bolt like you find on mountain and street bicycles axles? It could still slide on and you could lock on your pegs when you need them and when you don't, just flip and turn a couple of times and it's off.

Just my $.02...;~)

PS: I'd be willing to buy a set-up like this if you decided to produce them...I too don't like the looks or price of what's out on the market.

Nice use of the rear pegs.
The single mounting point in the center could make the bars wobbly with weight/pressure on the ends. Even with a tight fit of the square tubes, it's still a fulcrum point, and the corners on steel or aluminum tubing can round off quickly.

Good point, I've been thinking the same thing.

I could use two short tubes above and below the bar with a single locking pin passing through both. There's should be enough space on the plate for this.

Highway riding

I wanted to have forward controls so I could ride in comfort without giving up the controls. I went with a square tube mounted to the engine case, which was a pita because of access to the bolts - I had to go with socket head screws, and using a ball-head hex wrench I never quite achieved the required torque (but no leaks so far).
The comfort is very much improved (My bike is a Thruxton, so it's a big difference).
Here's a pic:

russerts,

It's kind of hard to tell how it's put together from the pic. From what I can see it ooks good. I don't think the pegs would be far forward enough for me though, 34" inseam.

I don't know...you might want to spend the cash on some simple highway pegs...and keep the rear pegs on the bike.

Every now and then, I like to put my feet on my rear pegs, lay on the tank (tank rack), prop my chin up on my left hand (balled in a fist on my tank) and cruise in a "relaxed" mode.....I also do it when I'm doing the ton....sans the left hand on the tank of course.

I'm not even gonna do the math.
