They're infinitely more sturdy than the expensive Norman Hyde pannier brackets I paid big bucks for.

oh yeah, those are sturdy! Looks like you could slide down the highway on those bags and come out ok.

Did you have to use a torch to heat them before bending them, or was it all vice and muscle?

Sweat, I used the torch. It's some kind of hard as heck cold rolled flat steel and it just wouldn't bend otherwise.
