Unhappy New 07 T100 Hard Starting

Just took delivery of a new leftover T100. My first new bike in 35 years. The salesman had a hard time getting it started. Once warm it ran great. Yesterday I went out for the it's second ride and it took me 5 min to get it started. I followed all of the instructions from this site, full choke, no throttle, still took a dozen hits of the button to get it to run. It would run for a few seconds then die. I have read most of the posts because this seems to be an issue with a lot of riders. I don't want to start messing around with settings since there are only 50 miles on the bike. I have always ridden classic stuff and worked as a wrench in the 70's at a Norton dealer. Flood the Amals 1 or 2 kicks and you were running. I am going to call the dealer on Tuesday and would like to talk intelligently about this issue. Lets just say I am bummed out with this. I had a 450 Honda with CV carbs and hated them. I live in New England and cold riding is a reality. Is it too much to expect that the bike should start with a hit or 2 of the starter and "fast idle" when cold with the enricher on? Being a long term classic British guy, I was going to by a SV650 but I just couldn't.

On a positive note, FANTASTIC ride, took me back to 1970 and my TR6R.

Thanks

something aint right. I own a 2007 T100 and its a really easy starting bike even in temps in the 30s. Mine still has AI and stock exhaust. I'd talk to the dealer.

Thanks, I am going to do that, I just came from trying a fix that I just found online . It was turning down the idle knob 3 turns to close off getting some air to enrich the mixture. I seemed to work. That being said is the bike really set too lean in the first place?

Thanks Again
Mike

Air screw

Hi McBike,
Hey congrats on the new bike, sure you will love it. Sounds like the air screw needs to be turned out a little, this will enrichen the low flow region of the carb. Where in NE do you live, I live in Plymouth NH, maybe we could meet up sometime, once the roads are better. I can't even get mine out the basement yet, still over 2ft of snow on the ground in my yard

Ride hard, smart, and safe!

Thanks for the suggestion. With only 50 miles on the bike, I will talk this over with the dealer. I live in Norwell Mass, which is a little south of Boston. Thanks for the invite. I know that New Hampshire as well as Vermont is riddled with beautiful twisty back roads that are made for scraping your foot pegs. Being off a bike for many years I need to get some miles on the odometer before I take any serious excursions.

Thanks for the invite

The fuel in the tank may have 'gone off a little' if it had been sitting a while also.

I had trouble starting mine when it was 1st brought home, half a tank of gas later, I topped it off with new fuel & its been fine ever since.

Maybe worth a try.

I'm with ACE100. Bad gas always gets me off to a bad start.

Thanks for the fuel tip, I did add more fuel and the same thing happened. With only 50 miles on the bike, I am going to let the dealer sort it out.
Thanks
Mike

My T100 was hard to start the first few times I rode it. Then it started getting better (2 or 3 tries instead of 6 or 7). Now it fires up on the first poke of the starter button almost every time. Didn't do anything special to fix it except ride the motorcycle.

I find my 2007 starts best with half choke when cold. Full choke kills it after it starts. Maybe give that trick a try.
