Check your front caliper bolts

My dealer called yesterday afternoon concerning the front caliper bolts. Apparently there is a TSB about this. I only have 114 miles on my bike. When I checked mine, the top bolt was missing and the caliper was rotated foward. The caliper had not rotated far enough to contact the rotor, but unnerving just the same. The dealer offered to take the bolt off of one of the bikes on the showrooom floor to replace mine. Since the dealer is 60 miles away and the hardware store is 3 miles, I am off to the hardware store.

I hold no annimosity toward the dealer. This is a manufacturing snafu.

I disagree. at 114 miles the dealer should have checked that bolt, it should have had some sort of loctite on it anyway.

The TSB must be very recent or Scrambler only. I just checked the Triumph site for my 07 Bonnie Black on Monday and there were no bulletins.

Couldn't agree more. Even if the factory and the set up "service" missed it, the dealer is supposed to check that torque in pre-delivery set-up. Good reminder for all of us to check out that critical stuff all the time.

Not having seen the official Triumph pre-delivery setup checklist, I cannot comment on whether the dealer should have caught this. I can state with reasonable certainty that the dealer did not install the caliper. It was installed at the factory.

BTW, it is a Scrambler and the replacement bolts (69 cents each) will have loctite on them.

I just replaced the fork springs on my Bonnie and was shocked that the caliper bolts did not have loctite.

I put some on during re-assembly.

Why did you remove the caliper bolts to replace the fork springs? FWIW, my caliper bolts had the paint dots on them before I cleaned them.

I don't like to put loctite on the bolts for the obvious reason, but I do check them, especially critical ones like the brake caliper bolts.

T100 Same Trouble

I was on my way home from work, and heard a "scraping noise" when I used the brakes. I was only 1/4 Mi. from home, so I took it slow, and didn't brake.
I guess I missed a bolt when I checked everything this weekend.
The bottom front caliper bolt is gone on my '06.
I called my dealer, and asked if they had it in stock, and just for giggles I asked if it was covered under warrantee, to my suprise it will be.(thanks again Hermy's)
The bad news is they don't stock it, it will be about a week.
I'm glad I wasn't 25 Mi. from home when I noticed it.

Lesson learned, CHECK EVERYTHING, and if you get interupted start over again.
