Cosmoline
OK, I couldn't stand it and picked up my new Scrambler today instead of Saturday. I managed to get it home without dropping it (its been 20 years since I've been on a bike). I've got to get out in a big parking lot and practice some slow maneuvering.
Anyway, when I got off and put it on the stand, the first thing that happened was a big amber drop of something hitting the concrete. I immediately thought the worst (oil). I went back after taking off my gear and stuck my finger in it. Well, it was hard and waxy. I'm guessing cosmoline. I used some WD-40 to clean the engine off, but is there something better I should use? How long can I expect this to continue?

Some people are like Slinkies. They're really good for nothing. But they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

My T100 did that for the first several rides. Dealer wipes off all they can get to, but there is more cosmoline in nooks and crannies. Don't drive yourself nuts trying to find it - just ride the bike. It will burn off.
My first ride I pulled into the garage and it looked almost like the bike was on fire for all the smoke pouring off of it. Stunk too. Next ride was better. After three or four rides, no more smoke or drips.

another tip... if you'd like to get the pretty blue header thing going, make sure they are completely clean before you get many miles on her. No finger prints, etc. I didn't, and my headers look like sh*t.

You'll be amazed at the amount on the engines/cases. Truly amazing. It will be gone before too long. Kind of a shock when you first see, a real Oh No feeling.
And welcome to a new and wonderful world.

I don't know. After owning motorcycles since the early 60s, when my Bonnie didn't leak or use any oil, I just had to wonder if it had any oil in it!

Cosmoline? Don't worry about it...just make sure your headers are clean...
Oil? I once heard an old Triumph rider say that as long as the bike was leaking oil...you were OK...but if it wasn't leaking oil...THAT is when you should start to worry...
